The Forces Pension Society has forged a partnership with the Personal Finance Society (PFS), the professional body for the UK financial advisory profession, called Forces Money Plan.
Armed forces personnel and veterans (regardless of their health or injuries) are referred into this initiative and will benefit from a free pro bono guidance consultation with a financial adviser who is a member of the Personal Finance Society.
Forces MoneyPlan offers a free, no-obligation, confidential, single meeting with a financial adviser who has agreed to provide ‘generic financial guidance’ to help Forces personnel understand their financial position, based on their own circumstances. It aims to help them make better-informed decisions about their financial options, to show them how best to plan their finances and to raise awareness of financial scams and pitfalls. It does not offer or promote specific financial products.
Forces MoneyPlan consultations can provide a wide range of assistance, including guidance on day to day finances and debt, future planning, the implications of each of the many different types of savings, investment and pension products available, retirement options, risk, personal injury trusts, considerations on approaching retirement, buying a home, starting work, changing jobs, having a baby, starting a family, redundancy and navigating the complexities of sourcing and funding care, whether state or self-funded.
Members don’t need to have significant assets or a given level of income – the consultation will be free regardless of financial position.

Citizen Advice MoneyPlan is a pro-bono initiative which partners financial adviser members of the Personal Finance Society with local Citizens Advice. Members volunteer their time to provide free financial guidance to those who wouldn’t ordinarily be able to access professional advice.

The independent evaluation report recommended that access to free generic financial advice should be considered an integral part of a comprehensive money advice service encompassing debt advice and financial capability, and that Citizens Advice and the PFS should continue to support and develop MoneyPlan. Citizens Advice is a trusted brand and its clients expect financial advice to be part of a seamless advice path from within the Citizens Advice rather than being passed to another agency.
